The Labour Party has committed to creating 1m “good” jobs over the course of the next Parliament if elected.

In a speech this morning in York, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn (pictured) committed to creating 1m “good” jobs that invest in the skills of the UK workforce if elected next Thursday (8 June.)

Handing over to his shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey to provide further details, Long-Bailey revealed Labour would develop a new economic model post-Brexit making “full use” of all available policy levers, working in partnership with business and trade unions, to rebalance the UK’s economy “so that it serves the many, not just the few”.

A national transformation fund would be introduced, Long-Bailey added, with £250bn of lending made available by a new national investment bank and network of regional development banks to deliver the planned 1m “good” jobs over the course of the next Parliament. “We will produce a million high-quality, high-skilled and high-paid jobs,” Long-Bailey said.

“We will deliver economic growth to every region and every nation. Quite simply, Labour will build an economy that works for the many and not the few,” she added.
