More apprentices needed in recruitment, says Apprentice contestant Thakrar

This National Apprenticeship Week, one of the recruitment sector’s stars from BBC’s The Apprentice has laid down the gauntlet to other agency leaders.

Trishna Thakrar, who was on the show in 2016, then worked at former winner Ricky Martin’s agency Hyper Recruitment Solutions before setting up her own agency, TT Tech Solutions, told Recruiter she really does believe in apprenticeships.

She urged other recruiters to give the same opportunity to apprentices as they would graduates when recruiting into their business.

“Throughout my career I’ve trained and developed apprentices into becoming fully fledged, successful recruitment consultants,” Thakrar told Recruiter. “The vast majority of them show bags of enthusiasm, are very eager to learn, and take direction very well.

“Early in my career at SThree, I trained Frank Hubbard, a back-office apprentice, into a recruitment consultant, and he is now an extremely successful insurance recruiter.

“I’ve hired one apprentice into TT Tech Solutions. He has come on leaps and bounds in just four weeks. He asks lots of questions, will try anything and has a fearless attitude.

“Sometimes hiring grads is great as you know they’ve gone through that university process, but in the ever-changing recruitment industry, an apprentice can be just as trainable and valuable.”
