Redundant recruiters urged to ‘get back in the fight’

Recruiters who have been made redundant as a result of the Covid-19 crisis should look close to home when considering their next move, urges CRM and software company Firefish.

Firefish is leading a campaign for recruiters who have lost their jobs – but have not been furloughed – to #getbackinthefight by starting their own recruitment agency.

“We’re expecting the industry to shrink by as much as a third in the UK as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak,” a company statement said, which claimed thousands of recruiters have lost their jobs.

Wendy McDougall, CEO of the Glasgow-based business, said: “As a recruitment software supplier, we are speaking with recruiters all day every day, so we can see what’s going on in the industry more than anyone. There are thousands of excellent recruiters out there who have just lost their jobs due to reasons totally outside their control.”

She went on to say: “Right now, the recruitment industry is bleeding – but it will also be the first industry to bounce back, and we’re expecting a real recruitment boom as soon as things start to big up again.”

McDougall said Firefish was committed to helping ambitious and talented, redundant recruiters “get back in the fight” by starting up their own recruitment businesses.
