REC expels 51 members for not completing Compliance Test

Fifty-one recruitment agencies have been expelled from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) after failing to complete the REC’s Compliance Test on schedule, the trade body has said.

Members are required to complete the REC Compliance Test when they join and on a two-year cycle after that. The test is an assessment of the rules and regulations that recruiters legally must follow, as well as the ethical principles contained in the REC’s Code of Professional Conduct.

According to the REC, over 97% of members completed the test and retained membership by the end of the latest Compliance Test cycle.

“Despite the unprecedented difficulties of the past two years, this latest Compliance Test cycle has seen very high levels of engagement, showing how committed REC members are to professionalism and the highest ethical standards,” the REC said in a prepared statement.

The organisation declined to provide to Recruiter the names of the businesses expelled.

“The Compliance Test is a key tool that helps us demonstrate that our members meet the right standards when running their business. The past 18 months have been extremely difficult, but our members have responded brilliantly, with only a few not completing the test in time,” said Lorraine Laryea, recruitment standards director at the REC.

“I want to say thank you to all the members who took and passed the Compliance Test in this cycle. In doing so, you have fully supported the REC’s compliance regime, your fellow members and the wider industry by showing that you have the right knowledge and values to succeed.”
