Bupa focuses on online buying for medical supplies

After successfully launching its e-procurement system for IT purchasing, Bupa plans a roll-out for medical consumables, such as gloves and syringes, to all of its 36 hospitals.

The private healthcare provider’s annual hospital consumable spend, likely to reach about £400 million by the end of 2002, will be carried out online in its entirety from December, said Mark Ralf, its group e-commerce director.

Bupa, one of Britain’s largest hospital groups, put all of its £80 million annual IT spend online in June.
