Slight upturn, but UK manufacturing sector continues to struggle

Manufacturing production in August expanded at the fastest rate since March, according latest purchasing managers’ index (PMI) report.

But manufacturers’ margins continued to be squeezed with input costs rising at a faster rate than output prices.

The overall PMI –a composite indicator of sector conditions from CIPS and NTC Research in which 50 indicates no change on the previous month – registered 50.1 up from 49.5 in July, the first time it has risen in four months.
