VAT threat to tourism industry

EU proposals for VAT on package holidays would see an ‘alarming’ rise in holiday prices, warns the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA).

The ETOA says that a tax on tourism would be detrimental to Europe’s tourism industry and for the UK in particular. Tom Jenkins, Executive Director at ETOA, says the proposals "represent a ticket to send 5,000 jobs and £5 billion in tourism revenues offshore".
