CIPS’s first female president takes up her post today. But as Geraint John discovers, she is more concerned that purchasers see the wider business picture than with her own milestone

A little bit of history is made at CIPS today. For the first time in its 69-year existence, a woman has become president of the institute. Jeannie Bevan, whose purchasing career has included the top jobs at NatWest, British Airways and, latterly, National Savings, takes over at a time of growing opportunities and challenges for the profession.
