The DTI has released guidelines on the government’s Home Computing Initiative (HCI) to encourage more businesses to benefit from the schemes tax- free saving.

The guidance is aimed at helping UK businesses and public sector firms take advantage of the tax exemption on loaned computers, introduced by the Chancellor Gordon Brown in 1999. The exemption means that companies can loan computers to their employees as a tax-free benefit.
