Data on individuals has been controlled by law for 20 years, but the situation now is subtler and more likely to hurt employers as this article illustrates.
The Data Protection Act 1998 is about the processing of personal information. When it was first implemented, the Data Protection Commissioner, Elizabeth France, promised a code of practice for employers. The object of this would be to protect the privacy of employees.
