Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has been overtaken by rivals Tesco and Asda Wal-Mart and market changes in recent years, but the supply chain is at the heart of its recovery plan. Alison Campbell reports
Until the mid-1990s, Sains-bury’s, established in 1869, was the UK’s supermarket of choice. But in the cut-throat battle for supermarket custom, even Jamie Oliver’s charms haven’t been strong enough to stop the retailer being overtaken by Tesco and now Asda.
