Leveraging greater discounts through consortium purchasing makes tremendous sense - in theory. In practice, it often proves more a case of “divided we stand, united we fall”. Lack of commitment, conflicting objectives, reluctant suppliers and good old-fashioned infighting all conspire to destroy the harmony of a well-ordered, pooled buying process.
