The cashew processing industry could bring nearly 300,000 jobs across Africa, according to the African Cashew Alliance (ACA).
Currently, according to the ACA, 2m African farmers grow 40% of the world’s cashews, but 90% of the raw produce is processed in India and Vietnam.The ACA, founded in 2005, believes that bringing this cashew production back to Africa could create “more than 280,000 jobs”.
The population of Africa exceeded 1bn at the end of 2009.
