A ban on the recruitment of Filipino workers in Jordan has been lifted, reports Ammon News.
The near four-year ban ends following an agreement between the countries’ respective labour ministers, with the violation of Filipino workers’ rights a key concern in negotiations. Workers from the Philippines work almost exclusively as domestic helpers in Jordan.Following the government of the Philippines’ decision in 2008 to stop allowing workers to go to Jordan, the Indonesian and Sri Lankan government took similar steps.
According to Ammon News, Jordan employs nearly 70,000 domestic helpers, of which 13,330 are from the Philippines and 40,000 Indonesian.
