EXECUTIVE SEARCH firm VadarMoss Recruitment has migrated all of its IT systems to a private cloud, hosted by Databarracks.

Gary Williams (left), operations director at the firm which specialises in headhunting senior level sales, sales management, operational management and HR professionals across a number of sectors, told Recruiter that it opted for the private rather than public cloud as it was more reassured when it came to security policies and infrastructure. Databarracks’ datacentre is located in a nuclear bunker and can offer military-grade data encryption.VadarMoss’s motivation for moving to the cloud though was because it had daily issues with its IT infrastructure and with a server coming to the end of its life, it gave Williams the opportunity to review its set-up and take advantage of new technology. The company ran a pilot, with the old and new systems running in tandem from October to December last year, before successfully going live across one weekend.

SEAMLESS TRANSITION

Apart from consultants having to create another window for the cloud session after they log on as normal, the transition has been completely seamless, said Williams, with Databarracks creating a mirror image of everything on its systems for the cloud. “Databarracks took all of our client server software such as Bond Adapt and our Microsoft Office suite, and virtualised it for the cloud,” he said.

Vadarmoss pays a cloud cost-per-user fee but because its contract also includes disaster recovery and back-up, it has been able to get rid of its old third-party maintenance costs. “So this negated the new cost,” he said.

Another major advantage is that the cloud makes it far easier for consultants to work from home. “The virtual private network (VPN) we used was very fl aky at times but now the consultants’ experience is the same as it is from their desktop whether they are accessing from home or an internet café,” said Williams.

“The cloud is allowing us to have the hardware and infrastructure of a large enterprise on almost a pay-as-you-go basis, which is great for a small business.”
