London is the best place for top freelancer and contractor pay in the UK, but average salaries for such workers in Northern Ireland fall below the overall national average salary.
This is according to research from umbrella company Parasol Group, which finds London-based contractors earning the equivalent of an annual salary of nearly £66k – double the £33k average paid across all jobs in the capital. The national average salary, according to the Office for National Statistics, is £25.6k, but contractors and freelancers only own the equivalent of just under £24k.
Derek Kelly, managing director of the Parasol Group, says: “It comes as no surprise that London and the South-East lead the way when it comes to gross salaries, however Welsh contractors and freelancers do seem to have more earning power than the regional average for permanent workers suggests.
“What this report does show is the continued valuable contribution the UK’s flexible workforce is making both in terms of the skills and the experience they offer UK plc, as well as the tax revenue generated by their earning power.”
