INTERNATIONAL Australia: 18,000 broadband jobs to come
Mon, 14 May 2012
The roll-out of Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) should create between 16,000 and 18,000 jobs nationwide, with 400 coming at the opening of a new factory in Victoria last Friday (11 May).
These new jobs came with the opening of a new Corning Cable Systems ribbon cable manufacturing facility in Clayton, Victoria.
Minister for broadband, communications and the digital economy, Stephen Conroy, said that NBN is creating highly-skilled jobs and “laying the foundation for new and innovative Australian industries”.
He continued: “The NBN will deliver tremendous economic benefits to Victoria and Australia through increased productivity, greater employment opportunities, and better access to information and services.”
Corning Cable Systems won the contract to be a primary supplier of optical fibre cable to the NBN in January this year.
