Auto maker Toyota will create 125 new jobs as it expands its Huntsville, Alabama engine manufacturing plant.

The $80m (£50.6m) investment will see the firm increase production of V6 engines and pushes the number of workers employed there to 1,150.

Steve St Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, says that the company “continues to study more localisation in North America”.

US Congressman Mo Brooks of the fifth district of Alabama calls the announcement “a testament to the hard work and skills of Alabama workers”.

The increased production is to begin in March 2014.
