There is no reason to believe that the US government’s proposed Affordable Care Act – also known as Obamacare – would hit employment, a study finds.

Independent body the Urban Institute looked in depth at the experience of Massachusetts since approving and applying similar healthcare reforms in 2006.

Criticism of President Barack Obama’s plans have come under a number of criticisms – including the suggestion that they will be bad for the economy and jobs.

The Institute’s research says: “The evidence from Massachusetts would suggest that national health reform does not imply job loss and stymied economic growth.”

A decision from the US Supreme Court on whether the measures, signed into law by Obama in 2010, should be allowed to stand is expected later this month.
