Careers in banking and financial services IT are seen as less attractive than they were five years ago, but are still among the careers with the highest job satisfaction.
This is according to the 79 attendees of recruiter Harvey Nash’s banking and finance CIO [chief information officer] event last week. The survey of these attendees finds that 70% believe working in IT in banking has become a less attractive option over the last five years. However, the sector remains among those with the highest job satisfaction of those working in IT, with a parallel survey of 662 IT executives finding that 41% are ‘very happy’ with their job. Only three sectors – education (46%), advertising & PR (44%) and technology & telecoms (43%) – ranked higher.
Financial services also had a further 44% of respondents saying they were quite happy and only 15% unhappy in their jobs.
