The government’s ‘Return to Work’ programme has seen 67% of registered workers, all of whom had previously suffered permanent disabilities through accidents, return to work.
Since the scheme launched in 2007, 7,363 people have registered with the programme, with 67% finding new work.Of these, 2,792 people found work with their previous employer.
Social security organisation deputy chief executive Datuk Dr Mohamed Azman Aziz Mohammad says that while the organisation can pay compensation to accident victims, “it is better if we give them the fishing rod rather than fish every month”, adding that hospitals and health clinics across the country are collaborating with the scheme.
