UK manufacturing workers are those most likely to be seeking a move abroad, finds a survey by jobsite Totaljobs.com and research and consultancy firm Intelligence Group.
The survey of more than 7,000 UK employees found that 9.8% of those seeking a move abroad were in the production, manufacturing, maintenance & repair sector, closely followed by retail & wholesale (9.6%).Transport & logistics and public services, defence & community both made up 6.6% of those seeking a move overseas, followed by financial services, banking & insurance at 6.4%.
Those working in British manufacturing looking at prospects abroad cited the prospect of a permanent contract (41%) as a main reason to leave the UK – and this motivation was similarly a factor for between 36% and 44% of those in the other top five industries listed above.
Elsewhere in Europe, an even greater proportion of Germans working in the sector would be willing to move abroad for a permanent contract, almost double the number in Greece (24%).
