Discount retailer Poundland is to open 60 new stores and a distribution centre, providing 2,000 new jobs across the UK and Ireland.

Discount retailer Poundland is to open 60 new stores and a distribution centre, providing 2,000 new jobs across the UK and Ireland.
The company, which is known as Dealz in Ireland, will take on up to 100 in the new Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire distribution centre, and of the other store-based roles, around 140 are “directly linked to management”, a spokesperson for the company tells Recruiter.Last year it created 1,500 new jobs, despite opening 62 stores in total, including nine in Ireland.
The spokesperson also tells Recruiter that the company uses a number of different methods to fill different roles.
Management, distribution and head office jobs would be filled through direct sourcing through the company’s careers website, jobsite Reed.co.uk, and professional social network LinkedIn.
Store roles would be recruited via the firm’s key partners Avanta, Ingeus, Jobcentre Plus, Remploy and the Shaw Trust.
The company yesterday (3 June) announced its annual results for the 53 weeks to 1 April 2012, showing turnover of £780m, up 21.6% on the previous period.
