BA spurns agencies

Airline seeks new workers

Under-fire airline British Airways is set to reject recruitment agencies in its search for 200 new staff.

The firm has admitted it needs extra customer service workers following a review of the airline’s Heathrow operation by chief executive Rod Eddington.

But local newspaper advertising, the Totaljobs.com website, the company’s own website and word of mouth are expected to plug the vacancy gaps.

Sophie Greenyer, a spokeswoman for BA, said: “We are looking to recruit baggage, check-in and gate staff. Our recruitment emphasis will be on publications local to Heathrow, and our own site at www.britishairwaysjobs.com.

“We would hope there would also be current Heathrow airport workers who are looking for a change of direction.”

The new staff will be in addition to 216 new airport terminal staff already being trained at Heathrow.

Eddington’s review will result in a reduced flying programme for three months.
