London-based executive search consultants S+T+C+C has been asked to find three non-executive directors (NEDs) for a minerals firm based in Kazakhstan that intends to float on the London Stock Exchange.

Malcolm Campbell, S+T+C+C's managing director, told Recruiter that the company, ENRC, which employs 60,000 staff and accounts for around 5% of Kazakhstan's gross domestic product (GDP), was looking for "people who are now figures in the City".

Campbell said the NEDs would provide advice about corporate governance issues and help the company understand the customs and practices of the London Stock Exchange.

Because of its size, the company is expected to go straight into the FTSE 100 index.

Campbell said the Kazakhstan connection "hadn't dissuaded people from exploring the opportunity". In fact, "Kazakhstan naturally arouses more curiosity than some other countries — the Netherlands, perhaps," he said.

S+T+C+C hopes to make the first appointment within a month.
