IMMIGRATION LAW

REC welcomes proposed legislation changes

The REC has welcomed the government’s move to simplify immigation law.

Anne Fairweather (pictured), the REC’s head of public policy, says: “Immigration law is very complex, especially if you are an agency at the sharp end trying to work out if an individual can work.

“Plans to simplify the system are welcome. Any new systems need to make it clear to agencies who can and cannot work.”

The Home Office issued a consultation paper in June, aimed at consolidating and improving the efficiency of the UK’s immigation and asylum systems.

The plans include new powers for border controls, tougher checks before people enter the UK and up to £100m extra for in-country enforcement against illegal immigration.
