Recruiters have another powerful online channel to build brand and find passive candidates, following the launch of Kyte.tv.

Based in San Francisco and backed by some of the same investors behind Google, Hotmail and Skype, Kyte's uniqueness lies in bringing together social networking, user-generated video content and mobile services, along with collaborative features such as instant messaging and web blogging. It enables anyone to create their own customisable TV channel, which can be placed in a user's own website, within a blog, in their MySpace page or on a mobile phone.

Founder and CEO, Daniel Graf, claims it offers great potential for advertising and brand building to a highly targeted audience. "It gives you a connected audience at any time," says Graf, as he demonstrated the technology to Recruiter by instantly posting a slide show of shots taken on a mobile phone outside his office to a Kyte channel.

Aimed at a generation which spends more time in front of their computer than the traditional television, it is likely to be leapt upon by the MySpace and YouTube populations with 2,000 Kyte channels already launched. Major corporates have been quick to use sites such as MySpace to profile themselves and Kyte is likely to attract considerable attention from companies wanting to establish a connection with future talent.

Graf said that as with many new developments, you don't know how people are going to use it until it is out there. "People use technology in ways you never imagined," he said.

Alastair Cartwright, commercial director of Enhance Media, the online recruitment communications specialist, believes that Kyte offers corporates a great platform to showcase videos of a particular organisation, within a non-corporate environment.

"It's a great opportunity for corporate recruiters to enhance their brand. Videos will become an essential feature of any progressive career site within the next 12 months," he said.
