Opening a virtual island office in Second Life

Manpower in the US has launched the Manpower Island in the online universe of Second Life.

Manpower in the US has launched the Manpower Island in the online universe of Second Life. The island is designed to provide jobseekers, employers, as well as entrepreneurs, with an interactive forum where they can discuss the "world of virtual work", according to the company.

Manpower is defining 'virtual work' as work done outside the traditional, physical office space, such as in home or remote working or even a virtual environment such as Second Life.

"Manpower's mission is to help people, companies and governments understand what's coming next in the changing world of work," said Tammy Johns, Manpower's senior vice president of workforce strategy. "The virtualisation of the labour market is a key issue for all of these groups and our presence in Second Life will enable us to further define the next stages of virtual work," said Johns.
