A week in the life

A temps account manager tells all

A week in the life of Kelly Warren, MREC CertRP, senior account manager, temporary division, Neaves & Neat Employment Services Ltd

Monday

Arrived in the office at 8:25am to the phone ringing. First client of the day requires a temp for 9am to cover reception. A few phone calls later I have woken many candidates - one of whom agreed to be there by 9:30am. I start to clear my e-mails from the weekend, 29 in total - a few applicants, a few queries and timesheets etc.

I check candidate in at 9:30 for today’s assignment then checked a temp-perm candidate in for the final time. Registration at 1pm, meetings regarding Christmas cards and presents, my nomination for Consultant of the Year & the Extra Mile Award at the Suffolk Recruitment Awards on 28 October.

Tuesday

Received a call from another agency I work closely with. They are short by 12 temps for a market research assignment this Thursday. All hands on deck to secure this booking. I was delighted to have secured the booking within one hour.

Secured a new client who has taken on one of my temps to start immediately for an ongoing logistics assignment. Yesterday’s client that required a receptionist has extended her assignment until the end of the month. I then met with the local newspaper to discuss a job fair coming up in January and received my study literature for the Diploma in Recruitment Practice that starts this week.

Wednesday

After a hard night reading and understanding the content of my study books I registered the first candidate of three today and take a call from a client needing three telemarketing temps for this evening.

Booking completed with the temps for 5:30pm to 9pm this evening. Started preparing for a new marketing campaign to cover Cambridgeshire & Suffolk and take a call from my old employer which are looking for six permanent candidates to work in its call centre. As we are one permanent consultant down at the moment, my managing director gives authority for me to take on this vacancy. Before the end of the day I have six interviews lined up for this client - they take place next week.

Thursday

Up at 5:30am to attend a breakfast networking meeting. Bleary eyed, but found the meeting very informative. Checked market researchers in, but felt bad as they were all outside and it was raining! By 4pm my eyes were getting heavy but still had plenty to prepare for and leads to follow up on. At 5pm we took another permanent vacancy from a client requiring two employees ASAP.

Friday

Overview of week - 14 temporary placements, six permanent interviews. Start studying for Diploma in Recruitment Practice. Just as I thought the week couldn’t get much better my 5pm booking from last night has just offered two of my candidates interviews. I start following up on other leads and provisional requirements that I have taken over the past two weeks and secure three more interviews for a part-time temporary bookkeeper.

I finish the week with 14 placements, 11 permanent interviews, one new client and my head in a book for studying over the next 11 months…
