Adecco likely to have own acquisition in response to Randstad

Adecco is not under pressure to respond to Randstad’s planned acquisition of US recruiter SFN Group, according to Chris Burger, a specialist Adecco analyst at Helvea Equity Research.

Randstad announced yesterday that is acquiring SFN for $770m (£477m) after the boards of both companies unanimously approved a deal that is expected to go through in September.

Burger told Recruiter that Adecco was likely to respond with an acquisition of its own at some stage, but that an immediate response was unlikely. “They are still in the process of integrating with MPS [acquired in January 2010],” he explains.

Burger adds that even after the Randstad deal, the US market remains fragmented, with the two companies’ combined marketshare less than 5%.

“The trend is that there will be consolidation in the market, but this acquisition will not speed up this trend,” Burger said.
