APSCo talks tactics at launch event
Swain: APSCo will provide measurable economic benefit
The launch party for recently repositioned trade body the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) got off to a flying start, as recruiters debated recessionary tactics and how best to promote the sector during 2009.
Speaking at the event, Ann Swain, APSCo’s chief executive, said it would work to promote the interests of professional sector recruiters, as distinct from the rest of the industry.
The trade body previously focused on technology, IT and engineering recruiters under the banner of the Association of Technology Staffing Companies and will now cater for all professional recruiters.
Swain promised the new organisation would provide “measureable economic benefits”, including business intelligence, support and advocacy.
According to a spokesperson, APSCo has already signed up 30 new members since changing its name and focus (Recruiter, 26 November).
At the event Dave Pye, chief executive at IT recruiter Square One, told Recruiter the company was seriously considering joining the organisation: “APSCo membership has a global perspective which is very important for Square One and the specialist forums will be of benefit to our organisation as we maintain our growth outside of the UK. We will be able to share best practice and experiences with other organisations who have a wider geographical spread of business.”
The trade body plans to “significantly increase” the number of meetings it has this year to cater to a broader range of members, after holding 56 meetings last year, with an average attendance of 70 people.
Swain also mentioned the possibility of adding rec-torec recruiters to its membership, but added that it had not yet found a solution to possible fears of members sending consultants to meetings.
APSCo is re-launching its website with a new “look and feel” by mid-March and its Annual General Meeting will be held on 5 March.
