Budgets and continued restructuring key HR concerns for 2010

Budget constraints and ongoing restructuring programmes will be the key concerns for HR departments next year, according to research by recruitment process outsourcing provider Alexander Mann Solutions (AMS).
The research shows that a lack of budget represents the biggest challenge to HR in 2010 for 36% of respondents, while the ongoing impact of restructuring programmes was the second most concerning issue (32%).
While 66% of respondents say budgets will remain unchanged, nearly one fifth of HR managers predict budgets will increase in 2010.
HR departments also predict expect job movements among employees as the economic climate improves, and are seeking to counteract this by focusing on retention and development strategies.
Tom Marsden, director of professional services at AMS, says: “Companies are recognising that in 2010, they will need to take steps to retain their workforce. This could be through an increased emphasis on training and engagement programmes or by investing in areas that will optimise expenditure, such as integrated technology systems or improved candidate attraction schemes. The signs are that HR departments are preparing to maximise their resources and staff as organisations look to grow.”
