Building energy efficiency targets has increased requirement for personnel with knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency, according to recruiters.

Mike McNally, business director at Hays Building Services, told Recruiter: “All organisations are targeting these individuals, especially during a recession, as businesses are looking to save money on their fuel bills.

“Consultancies require these skill sets to win business from private sector clients looking to save money and public sector clients that have the resources to invest now.”

Job roles which are in demand include low carbon consultants, who advise on the design and operation of commercial buildings to meet energy efficiency standards to comply with the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive, according to Rebecca Coen, senior manager at Hays Building Services.

Richard Moss, construction team manager at technical recruiter Gold Group, told Recruiter: “As the need to comply with the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive becomes more and more important, roles are starting to spring up. We’ve already seen quite a volume of activity in environmental roles from our town planning team.”
