Scottish construction recruiter Contract Scotland is running five-day site safety management courses to help temporary workers find jobs.
Colin Woodward, managing director of Contract Scotland, told Recruiter the vacancies requiring the qualification had jumped from 10% in 2004 to 60% in 2009.
“It gives them a far better chance of obtaining and maintaining employment in the current market. Conditions are dictating that the lack of training will affect their chances of keeping in regular work.”
George Wilson, a construction contractor who took part in the scheme, told Recruiter: “’I have benefitted from the CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme course that Contract Scotland organised. I doubt that I would be in the management position that I am currently in at present without them foreseeing the need to arrange this course.”
Woodward added the company has helped 130 candidates gain Industry qualifications, contributing more than £14,200 towards the running costs over the last five years.
