With 1 October’s one year anniversary of the implementation of the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) fast approaching, many recruitment agencies are analysing exactly what impact their introduction has had. However, among contractors more than four in five only have a limited knowledge of the legislation.
This is according to a survey of 322 contractors from contractor services firm ICS, which saw 47% of contractors saying they were ‘unsure’ what the regulations entailed and 36% saying they understood ‘a little’ of what it involved. However, most contractors (77%) claim to have been completely unaffected by the law change, with only 7% reporting that they had to make a change to contracts.
ICS managing director John Lyon says: “Given that a lot of the preparation and build up to the AWR last October was to do with awareness, it is surprising to see so many contractors are still not aware of the regulations.
“A lot of the initial concern about potential problems with contracts was dealt with before it became an issue, and the implementation was smooth… We do not predict the situation to become any worse, especially as we are now much more familiar with the regulations a year on.”
