Earls Court redevelopment to create 12,000 new jobs
Plans to redevelop London’s Earls Court could create 12,000 new jobs.
Plans to redevelop London’s Earls Court could create 12,000 new jobs.
Today EC Properties, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Capital & Counties Properties (Capco), submitted planning applications for the Earls Court & West Kensington opportunity area.
The plans include outline applications for the 77 acre Sir Terry Farrell masterplan and a detailed application for the 7.5 acre Seagrave Road car park site.
The £8bn project will create more than 7,500 new homes and 12,000 new jobs. The plans also include offices, leisure, hotel and retail space, as well as a new primary school, library, an integrated health centre and 23.5 acres of public open space including the 5 acre ‘Lost River Park’.
A Capco spokesperson told Recruiter: “This a multi-billion investment in London. The development and regeneration, the building of the high street, the shops and everything within the development will create the new jobs through the masterplan.
“The masterplan has gone in today and there will be a process surrounding the development. There will be jobs that come online whether that is for the construction element or once development’s done at various stages. The 12,000 jobs exclude construction jobs and relate to the jobs created around the project.
“It’s not necessarily Capco who is creating the jobs specifically — it is the development they are submitting the planning for and through that process will create the jobs so it could be retailers moving into the high street.
“They are proposals and it is a long-term project but it is a big project. It is sizable in terms of what it is going to generate in terms of new homes and jobs as it comes together.”
