Candidates from the finance sector are taking advantage of transferable skills and targeting job roles in the energy sector.

Natasha Delisle-Barrow, director for multilingual, finance and energy divisions of Alexander Hill Recruitment, told Recruiter:

“The energy sector, in particular the renewables, is highly attractive to candidates.  It is a growth sector and in a similar position held by banking several years ago - it is seen as a highly innovative, dynamic and forward-thinking area.”

Delisle-Barrow added candidates with transferable skills included office support staff, and trading, brokers and analysts, following the diversification of the energy markets.

Ben Bowers, managing director of rec-to-rec energy specialist Bowers Consulting, told Recruiter recruitment consultants were also moving from the finance to the energy sector.

“We have seen a trend emerge for consultants that have traditionally recruited into the financial/professional services sectors now look to the energy industries.

“Although a few were ahead of the curve and moving before the collapse of the financial markets, the last six months has seen an incremental increase in consultants moving sectors.”
