Give the youth of today a voice

Recruiters can showcase hidden skills to prospective employers that the young people do not know they have, according to Jayne Mee, group people and customer experience director at Barratt Developments.

Mee told Recruiter: “Recruitment agencies can showcase a young person’s skills, where they [young people] may not have the wherewithal to express them to a business in the right way. Agencies can tease that out of the young person and put it in a language that a business can understand.

“Recruiters can assess the potential of that person, of where they may be able to aspire to. It is really important to bring out the natural skills that would fit the organisation rather than the technical competence because a young person will not have that technical expertise.”

Mee was speaking at the launch of the REC’s Youth Employment Taskforce report.
