The great British independent pub could be about to disappear from high-streets across the country, according to hospitality recruiters.
Jane Brumby, director at Apple Appointments, told Recruiter that the combination of the smoking ban and the economic climate were hitting independents hard.
“Pubs are disappearing. Very few pubs now are looking for staff. The ones doing well are the big pub chains. The days of the tenancy are gone. Pubs have taken a battering.”
Paula Rogers, managing director at Admiral, adds: “Pubs have been heavily affected. It is only coming to light now. We are certainly seeing it. The chains in certain areas have strong brand recognition but chains are closing by the day as well.”
