INTERNATIONAL Australia: Government broadband investment creates 130 call centre jobs
Up to 130 new jobs will be created at the national contact centre for Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN), which opened yesterday (19 September) in the Gold Coast.
Earlier this summer, Recruiter reported that significant job creation, up to around 18,000 positions in total, was expected through construction of the NBN’s physical infrastructure.
Currently, over 20,000 Australians are connected to the NBN, with work due to have started or be completed on 758,000 homes and businesses across the country before the end of this year.
Construction will start elsewhere in the Gold Coast by June 2015 at the latest, and labour senator for Queensland Joe Ludwig says: “It will bring tremendous economic and social benefits to the Gold Coast and the rest of Queensland, including better education, health and small business opportunities.”
