Canadian job creation will now mostly focus on lower-wage areas like retail service, customer service and catering, the The Montreal Gazette reports.

The provinces of Alberta and Quebec are notable exceptions to this trend, however, according to banking solutions firm CIBC World Markets’ Employment Quality Index.

Alberta employment has been boosted by oil and natural resource projects, while Quebec has seen major construction projects undertaken by Hydro-Québec in addition to consistent government spending, the Gazette notes.

The country’s unemployment rate has dropped from 8% last September to 7.1% in the same month this year.
