Study finds managers are disliked for poor communication and dishonesty

Almost 30% of employees would swap their manager if they could, according to research by Investors in People.

It found 22% of people thought they could do a better job than their superiors, with men more confident in their ability to do better than their boss than women.

An ability to communicate effectively was listed as the most important quality for a successful manager, followed by honestly, someone who delegates, someone who is firm but fair and someone who looks after their employees’ careers.

The study also found that long-term employees are considerably less happy with their managers than newcomers. Also employees in larger organisations are more likely to want to change their manager.
