IT teams suffer in cost-conscious times

Organisations will not gain the long-term benefits of IT investment as they cut budgets as a result of the downturn, warns a report by IT recruiter Modis International.
Over half of the IT decision-makers surveyed name lack of budget as a primary barrier to the implementation of their IT strategy, with nearly a third saying it is hampering their day-to-day work.
The number of firms aiming for time and efficiency savings through their IT spend is up to 43% from 39% last year, while 46% said that cost-consciousness is the top priority in IT teams.
Jim Albert, managing director of Modis says: “In 2011, businesses have become more aware of IT’s potential to enhance business efficiency.
“However, most organisations are focusing on keeping business-as-usual activities going rather than looking at future innovations and developments. A change in mindset is still needed among some financial directors to risk upfront investment for longer term gains.”
