Jobsite rapped by ASA

Jobsite has received a slap on the wrist from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which has described one of its TV adverts as “misleading”.

The job board was taken to task by two viewers over a claim that suggested it would “search through an average of 9,000 new jobs every day to find you the right one”.

The ASA ruled that some vacancies may be duplicated and also took issue with the job searches taking place “every day”, when the site’s daily vacancy average of 9,075 was calculated using working days.

The ASA has ordered that Jobsite not broadcast the advert again in its current form, and told them not to use “misleading” claims in their ads.

Keith Potts, chief executive of Jobsite, said his company had done all it could to comply with advertising regulations. He said: “All the correct procedures were followed before the broadcast of our adverts. This included obtaining approval from Clearcast (the official body responsible for the pre-transmission examination and clearance of television advertisements) for the statistics used and their substantiation. It was therefore in good faith and upon the green light from Clearcast that these adverts aired between October 2008 and February 2009.

“The adverts are not currently being broadcast and ahead of the next phase of the campaign it was always our intention to update the relevancy of the end line. Regardless, we welcome the ASA’s recommendations and will take them on board as appropriate in the future.”
