Growth of jobs in the UK’s manufacturing sector is set to ease, according to economists the Centre for Economics and Business Research (cebr).
Latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows industrial production in the UK grew steadily in July, up 1.9% year-on-year but only by 0.3% on June, while the UK’s manufacturing industry saw quarterly growth fall to 0.9% in July, from 1.6% growth in June.
According to economist Shehan Mohamed this latest data provides further evidence that growth in the UK economy will ease over Q3 2010, after recording higher than expected GDP quarter-on-quarter growth of 1.2% in the second quarter of the year.
Mohamed told Recruiter: “The data itself shows that there has been robust growth in manufacturing sector compared to primary industries such as mining and utilities, over the past year.
“This will support job creation in the sector. However, we expect the pace of recruitment to ease over the next few months as business confidence remains relatively weak in the face of weaker than expected consumer demand and looming government spending cuts.”
