Media & creative sector faces junior talent shortage

The media & creative sector is facing a shortage of experienced junior talent, according to Paul Farrer, chairman of Aspire Global Network (AGN).
Farrer’s comments follow a recent Credit Suisse survey of a panel of Northern European media planners, which showed there was no slowdown in the growth of the media and advertising industry in Northern Europe.
At the same time, an IPSOS survey for AGN released earlier this week of more than 1,500 media/marcoms professionals showed that 80% felt the performance of their company was either stable of improving.
Farrer told Recruiter: “The broad media landscape is job rich and talent poor. With so few joining the sector in the recession there was no talent available at the two to four years’ experience level.
“Most companies have on-going recruitment needs to replace people moving elsewhere and in addition they need to recruit new talent for roles that are being created by the application of technology in the sector. The best way to reduce time and money spent on recruitment is to implement a robust retention strategy, and our survey provides an insight in to what employers need to do.”
