Meighan is chair by royal appointment
The chief executive of specialist PR and communication recruiter VMA Group, Julia Meighan, who has been appointed chair of the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Programme, said that her experience in recruitment will prove invaluable in inspiring young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Prince’s Trust Enterprise Programme supports unemployed young people aged 18-30 to work out if their business ideas are viable and whether self-employment is right for them.
Meighan told Recruiter: “I actually know what it is like to set up a business and to sit in your office by yourself with a phone. To empathise [with the young people on the programme] and to understand what they are going through, it helps if you have done it yourself.”
Speaking of a particular challenge she faced earlier in her career, when she found she was pregnant four weeks after finding offices, Meighan said that everyone who sets up in business run up against “a massive problem”, but that “failure isn’t an option”. In her case, she said she “almost had to stop winning new business” because of the difficulty of finding the right calibre of consultants.
