Almost 2,500 vacancies in the sport and active leisure sector for young, long-term unemployed people have been created by The National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure.
In response to youth unemployment figures rapidly approaching 1m, the employer-led organisation, which delivers training solutions to the industry, has made a successful bid to access the government’s Future Jobs Fund.
The posts, most of which start in January and February, are open to long-term unemployed young people and will guarantee training and employment for six months. The National Skills Academy adds it is working with employers to ensure that as many of these jobs will lead to long-term careers in the sector.
The Future Jobs Fund permits employers to pay for the development of employees in the first crucial months and removes barriers to recruitment.
The National Skills Academy is to apply for a second tranche of funding in the new year.
Employers offering jobs through the Future Jobs Fund include Premier Sport, Fit for Sport, The Amateur Swimming Association, The Amateur Boxing Association of England and Transforming A Generation (TAG).
