Technical and engineering recruiter NES Group has issued a warning to fellow recruiters over the increasing dangers posed by online content theft after its own website was targeted.
The process works by firms copying and pasting information from other websites when creating their own web pages without permission.
Matt Cody, marketing director at NES, says: “Plagiarism is a growing problem on the web and we’re cracking down on it. Since we started monitoring this, we’ve been shocked to find that recruitment agencies from across the world, from Singapore to the Midlands, have copied content from our career management library.
“We invest a lot of time and energy, researching, writing and promoting our web content and we feel strongly about protecting it from businesses out to steal. Search engines penalise duplicate web content meaning our copy is devalued. I’d advise all recruitment organisations to make regular checks to ensure they protect their content and, in turn, their reputation.”
