Pitching candidates across social media

A new job board is taking a different approach to integrating with social media by broadcasting candidates’ details as well as job opportunities through the new channels available.

GreatBritishJobs.co.uk is the first generalist board to be launched by Job Affair, which also runs the regional site EastMidlandsJobs.co.uk and medical and healthcare specialist site www.Just4Medical.co.uk.

Founder Richard Johnson, who also runs his own accountancy and administration recruitment business BA Recruitment, and has more than 10 years’ experience in the industry, told Recruiter that he carried out research and found that no-one seemed to be promoting the jobseeker, so decided to turn the existing model on its head and provide a recognised social media channel for candidates to broadcast their ’pitch’ publicly.

“This in turn will lead to employers recognising where jobseekers turn to when they are looking for a job,” he said. “Twitter has advanced search capabilities, especially the hashtag symbol. We’re building our searches based on job location and occupation search criteria, for example, ’Kent HR’. Employers and recruitment agencies will be able to immediately identify potential candidates and assess basic criteria for their searches.”

Candidates who want their details to be broadcast, simply upload a CV or profile on the site and can then post their name, occupation, job location and a headline tweet. Johnson explains that the tweet could look something like this: ’Newly qualified accountant, ACA, Big 4 exp, exp of GAAP, M&As, audits. Strengths: Systems, Management, IT Ready for 1st cmrcl FC role.’

Details are broadcast through various channels such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, and employers who want to find out more about a candidate can link back to the full profile on the job board. “Jobseekers will feel that they are being marketed in as many avenues as possible as quickly as possible,” said Johnson. “Living in a fast-paced world requires faced-paced results.”

Johnson is currently inviting employers and recruiters to trial the site. Going forward, he wants to continue to improve Job Affair’s job boards with new features, while maintaining a simple platform for promoting jobseekers. He has also trademarked the domain name WeberView.com and plans to announce news of a fully interactive international Web interview site soon.

“As we know recruitment took a huge hit in the downturn and while things have improved I don’t believe it [recruitment] will come back with the same ferocity,” he said. “Recruiters need to adapt and also make sure they are going where the candidates are and keep up with technology. I wanted to find new ways of promoting jobseekers to recruiters.”
